Making guitars is not that uncommon, particularly here in Nashville.  Making them the way an honest-to-goodness luthier, like Manuel Delgado, makes them - well, that's another story.  Handcrafting each one to perfection from his studied understanding of that particular customer, Manuel carries on the tradition begun in the 20's in Mexico by his grandfather and great uncle, and continued by his father.   No two instruments are exactly alike, either in appearance or sound.  And I doubt that anyone walks away unhappy with the results.
