WKDF began on the first day of 1967, just as FM radio was beginning to power up and to ultimately push AM aside.  Originally located downtown in the Stahlman Building (the big red letters still sit atop the structure), it moved to Rutledge Hill to the former site of the home of Captain Thomas G. Ryman.  Over the years, the station has focused on a variety of musical genres, including hard rock, soft rock, Top 40, finally settling on a mixture of contemporary and classic country in 1999 after declining market share to other FM’s in the rock arena.
